Ironwood (Mesua ferrea) in Sri Lanka
Characteristics:
It is the national tree of Sri Lanka.The tree is known for its hard, durable timber (hence the name "Ironwood").Produces fragrant white flowers with yellow centers.Grows in wet zones and is often found in forests and temple premises.
Uses:
Religious/Cultural: Sacred in Buddhism, often planted near temples.Medicinal: Used in Ayurveda for treating inflammation, wounds, and infections.Timber: Highly valued for construction and carving due to its strength.
ලක්ෂණ:
එය ශ්රී ලංකාවේ ජාතික ගසයි. මෙම ගස එහි තද, කල් පවතින දැව සඳහා ප්රසිද්ධය (එබැවින් "යකඩ දැව" යන නම). කහ මධ්යස්ථාන සහිත සුවඳැති සුදු මල් නිපදවයි. තෙත් කලාපවල වැඩෙන අතර බොහෝ විට වනාන්තරවල සහ පන්සල් පරිශ්රවල දක්නට ලැබේ.
භාවිතයන්:
ආගමික/සංස්කෘතික: බුද්ධාගමේ පූජනීය, බොහෝ විට පන්සල් අසල සිටුවනු ලැබේ. ඖෂධීය: දැවිල්ල, තුවාල සහ ආසාදන සඳහා ආයුර්වේදයේ භාවිතා වේ. දැව: එහි ශක්තිය නිසා ඉදිකිරීම් සහ කැටයම් සඳහා ඉතා අගය කොට සලකනු ලැබේ.
